Announces a certificate course in Music Therapy for the year 2020-21
(For Parents, special educators and any one interested in helping children with special needs)

Duration- 9 months

Start date: July 2020

Class timings- Saturdays-10.30 am to 1.30 pm
(Two hours of theory and one hour of singing/practice session)
                          
Venue: Information & Resource Centre,No.9,  Shankarmutt Road, Next to Shankarapuram Police Station, Shankarapuram,  Basavanagudi, Bangalore: 560004. 

Fees- Details will be shared

Medium of Instruction- English and Kannada

Eligibility: A deep passion and commitment to work with children with special needs. A minimum educational qualification of 12th STD and above, knowledge of some form of music and singing ability.

4. Forms of music therapy
5. Kinds of music and their role in music therapy
6. Music and its impact on the brain

9. Designing music therapy sessions and use of various games and tools in therapy
10. Research studies on music therapy

The Teacher-Meena Ganapathy



Dr. Meena Ganapathy has been teaching Vocal (Carnatic) music for over a decade.
She has completed her PhD in music from Music Academy Chennai . She is a Certified Music Therapist from Apollo Hospitals where she researched the application of Music for special education and its use on behaviour modifications of special children.This also justifies that learning carnatic music
brings about holistic development in children and adults.
Mrs. Meena Ganapathy teaches music at Shri Ramana Maharishi School of Blind, JP Nagar  for 10 yearsand at Deepika School for Special Children, Shankarpuram, for the last eighteen years.
She is also a consultant therapist at two more schools for children with special needs.
Mrs.Meena Ganapathy also runs a music school called Rukmini Music Foundation where she trains children for carnatic music and also conducts group music therapy sessions for special children.
She is an examiner for the music exams conducted by the Karnataka Music Board .
Course content – Sloka/Songs/Carnatic music- Vocal/Training for Music exams.
